Duck & Snaith present a double bill of collaborative dance making centering on women in the field of performance.
After the success of their recent European tour, Duck & Snaith return to San Diego with a trio version of their duet Girls at Work, in collaboration with violinist Mary Oliver, accompanied by a group work for seven women - Woman For The Sake Of It.
Woman For The Sake Of It: Katie and Yolande will be joined by a cast of San Diego based dance artists - Anya Cloud, Karen Schaffman, Kristianne Salcines, Gina Bolles Sorensen, Veronica Santiago Moniello. In response to a controvercial and provocative comment made recently in the press by a British male choreographer “we do not need more female choreographers for the sake of having more female choreographers”, this strong cast of women dancers / choreographers provocatively spring off this statement to express their unique voices, from their own artistic attributes, both individually and collectively. Situated within a raw environment of objects and layers of eclectic sound and music, Woman For The Sake Of It seeks to navigate the multidimensional female artistic language in the manifesto; YES - being a woman in the world at this time on our planet, just ‘for the sake of it’ is absolutely critical.
Girls at Work premiered in San Diego in April 2015 and toured in Amsterdam, Berlin and the UK in February 2016. Yolande Snaith (UK, US) and Katie Duck, (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) present a collision of two solos integrating text, figure, objects, movement and sound score. This collision traces their individual experiences and personal histories about being a woman at work in their given fields and lifestyles, under the pressures of the shifting tides that continue to aim towards a male dominated culture, and the illness that reality provokes. In this performance they are joined by violinist Mary Oliver.
